For Undergraduate Students

Award for Excellence and Service in Earth System Science

 

1. Award criteria (Minimum Criteria)
Value of Award

Minimum Criteria
HK$5,000 – Sustain strong academic performance

– Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above, or one-year GPA (for the past year at the time of evaluation) of 3.5 or above, or accomplish an outstanding final-year project with grade A in both terms (for final-year students only)

– Contributed significantly to the CUHK Earth System Science community by various means of services

– Discretion and recommendation by the teaching staff

HK$2,500 – Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, or one-year GPA (for the past year at the time of evaluation) of 3.3 or above, or achieve a jump in one-year GPA by at least +0.6 over the past year (at the time of evaluation)

– Contributed significantly to the CUHK Earth System Science community by various means of services

– Discretion and recommendation by the teaching staff

2. Eligibility
Awardees must fulfill the following conditions for the offer of award:

      1. must have fulfilled the condition(s) set on the offer, and
      2. full-time students majoring in EESC over the past one year (at the time of evaluation)

3. Selection of awardees
The EESC undergraduate committee is entrusted to select suitable students to receive the award, but will receive recommendations from other teaching staff for consideration. No application is required. The awarded students will be notified individually.

Sophie Wai Chee Cheng Research Prize

 

1.Award criteria

      1. Award Amount: $3,000
      2. Achieved the best performance in the capstone project
      3. Discretion and recommendation by the teaching and administrative staff

2.Eligibility
Awardees must fulfill the following conditions for the offer of award:

      1. must have fulfilled the condition(s) set on the offer, and
      2. full-time undergraduate students majoring in Earth System Science
      3. A copy of the project should be submitted as supporting document

3.Selection of awardees
EESC will invite application from all EESC students. The awarded students will be notified individually.

Sophie Wai Chee Cheng Scholarship for Research Exchange

 

1.Award criteria

      1. Award Amount: Up to $20,000 per student
      2. Provide EESC undergraduate students with strong abilities to conduct research
      3. Discretion and recommendation by the teaching and administrative staff
      4. Preference will be given to candidates with financial need

2.Eligibility
Awardees must fulfill the following conditions for the offer of award:

      1. must have fulfilled the condition(s) set on the offer, and
      2. full-time undergraduate students majoring in Earth System Science
      3. have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of selection
      4. participate in research exchange or exchange activity with a substantial research component outside Hong Kong for at least four weeks but less than one year in the current (i.e. 2020/21) or following year of award (i.e. 2021/22).  Discretion and recommendation by the teaching and administrative staff
      5. Proofs on successful enrollment on the overseas exchange activity (if any) should be submitted as supporting document

3.Selection of awardees
EESC will invite application from all EESC students and conduct selection interview. The awarded students will be notified individually.

For Postgraduate Students

EASC Admission Scholarship

– Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Applicant
– Shortlisted by CUHK graduate school and recommended to the UGC
– Non-HKPFS awardees
– Overall GPA is higher than 3.5/4
HK$2,500
(Second-class)
– Ranked at the top 1 place in the MPhil and PhD application pools, respectively, excluding students who are shortlisted by CUHK graduate school and recommended to the UGC
– Will only award if no student meet the criteria for the first-class award.
2.Eligibility
Awardees must fulfill the following conditions for the offer of award:

      1. must have fulfilled the condition(s) set on the offer, and
      2. must have completed the required admission procedures and registered as full-time students of the EASC MPhil-PhD Programme, and
      3. do not suspend studies and/or withdraw from EASC Programme in their first year of study.

3.Selection of awardees
EASC graduate division head is entrusted to select suitable students to receive the award. No application is required. The awarded students will be notified individually

Award of Outstanding Service to the Earth System Science Programme

 

1.Award criteria

      1. Contributed significantly to the CUHK Earth System Science community by various means of services
      2. Discretion and recommendation by the teaching and administrative staff

2.Eligibility
Awardees must fulfill the following conditions for the offer of award:

      1. must have fulfilled the condition(s) set on the offer, and
      2. full-time students of the EASC MPhil-PhD Programme over the past one year (at the time of evaluation)

Award of Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award

 

1.Award criteria

      1. Offered excellent teaching assistance in the CUHK Earth System Science undergraduate-level course(s)
      2. Overall good teaching assessment results from the undergraduate students who took the course(s)
      3. Discretion and recommendation by the teaching staff, especially the course instructors who supervised the teaching assistants

2.Eligibility
Awardees must fulfill the following conditions for the offer of award:

      1. must have fulfilled the condition(s) set on the offer, and
      2. full-time students of the EASC MPhil-PhD Programme over the past one year (at the time of evaluation)

3.Selection of awardees
